Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a crimson and gold sandaled Mercurys foot between four vertical black Roman javelins with crimson sockets, the two outer spear heads pointed upward, the inner two down, and in base a wreath of green olive leaves beneath the Mercurys foot extending in back and beyond the javelins; at the top arced and entwined between the javelins a doubled gold scroll inscribed RELY ON US in black letters.

Symbolism
The organizations four campaign honors awarded for service in Italy during World War II are symbolized by the four javelins.  The olive leaves from the coat of arms of Italy refer to the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Italy.  The units direct descent from the 62d Signal Battalion is indicated by the winged Mercurys foot from the coat of arms of the former organization.  In addition, it alludes to the swift support maintenance and evacuation assistance furnished by the Battalion.  The transposed javelins denote the units provision of maintenance support of small arms and instruments on a direct exchange basis.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 21 October 1966.
